Established in September 1991 by community leaders, the Coral Gables Community Foundation, through its discretionary, donor-advised, and scholarship funds have helped the youth, elderly, and disabled, and have provided dental care for needy children, sponsored cultural activities, awarded academic, dance, and music scholarships, and offered seminars to educate the public on important health, finance, and estate-planning issues.
A nonprofit §501(c)(3) organization, the mission of the Coral Gables Community Foundation is to foster program and initiatives that enhance the quality of life for people living and working in “The City Beautiful” Coral Gables.
Your support and donations represent a sound investment in
your community. We hope you will participate and experience
the power and impact of creative philanthrophy. Foundation Friends
receive our newsletter and invitations to all events.
Coral Gables Art Cinema
Cinemateque's “Coral Gables Art Cinema“, a 144-seat art cinema on the ground floor
of the Coral Gables Museum parking garage building, was
made possible by a matching funds donation from Harry and Mary Perrin Fund (administered by the Foundation)
to the City. The cinema space is also available for rent for private events.
CoralGables@HOME
CoralGables@HOME is no longer offering member services. The program officially ended on May 6, 2011.
[The program ran for two years under the sponsorship of Kirk Landon.]
Coral Gables Museum
The Foundation served as the incubator
for this exciting initiative. The beautiful old Police
and Fire Station on Salzedo became the site of a museum,
art gallery, and lecture hall that has become a popular community gathering place. Free live music is frequently offered on the patio along Salzedo Avenue.
GablesHomePage.com
The winner
of grant money from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s
nation-wide “Community Information Challenge”, GablesHomePage.com
is a joint venture with the University of Miami School
of Communication to create a reliable, hyper-local news and
information exchange fueled primarily by Gables residents
50 and over, but serving the entire community through
a democratic, web-based platform.
Greening
of the Gables
In an effort to replace
many of the trees lost in hurricane season, the Foundation
started the Greening of the Gables initiative. Proceeds from 3 years of Greening of the Gables Galas significantly restored the decimated tree canopy and extended into improving the beauty of the Gables business
district through the planning of beautiful
oaks and palms along the bare 200-300 blocks of Alhambra Circle.
PARKnership
A private/public initiative,
PARKnership has been successful in creating new parks,
enhancing existing ones, and restoring historic fountains
in “The City Beautiful” for the enjoyment of residents today and for future generations. They are currently partnering with the Save The Alhambra Water Tower effort.
The Foundation extends special thanks to Robert Fewell and R. Kirk Landon and
for their generous contributions to several initiatives,
and to Ralph Sanchez of Old Spanish Village who generously
donated the current office space occupied by the Coral
Gables Community Foundation at 3001 Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
